چکیده

High-brightness X-ray free-electron lasers (FELs) are perceived as fourth-generation light sources providing unprecedented capabilities for frontier scientific researches in many fields. Thin crystals are important to generate coherent seeds in the self-seeding configuration, provide precise spectral measurements, and split X-ray FEL pulses, etc. In all of these applications a high-intensity X-ray FEL pulse impinges on the thin crystal and deposits a certain amount of heat load, potentially impairing the performance. In the present paper, transient thermal stress wave and vibrational analyses as well as transient thermal analysis are carried out to address the thermomechanical issues for thin diamond crystals, especially under high-repetition-rate operation of an X-ray FEL. The material properties at elevated temperatures are considered. It is shown that, for a typical FEL pulse depositing tens of microjoules energy over a spot of tens of micrometers in radius, the stress wave emission is completed on the tens of nanoseconds scale. The amount of kinetic energy converted from a FEL pulse can reach up to ∼10 nJ depending on the layer thickness. Natural frequencies of a diamond plate are also computed. The potential vibrational amplitude is estimated as a function of frequency. Due to the decreasing heat conductivity with increasing temperature, a runaway temperature rise is predicted for high repetition rates where the temperature rises abruptly after ratcheting up to a point of trivial heat damping rate relative to heat deposition rate.

Single Crystal Diamond X-ray Lens Development

The next generation light sources such as diffractionlimited storage rings and high repetition rate free electron lasers (FELs) will generate x-ray beams with significantly increased peak and average brilliance. These future facilities will require x-ray optical components capable of handling large instantaneous and average power densities while tailoring the properties of the x-ray beams for a...

بررسی تابش کانالی از ‌بلور‌های الماس به منظور تهیه پرتو X تک انرژی درشتاب دهنده خطی الکترون ELBE

The measurements of electron Channeling Radiation (CR) have been performed at ELBE linear electron accelerator of the Forschungszentrum Dresden-Rossendorf. The aim of performing these experiments was to optimize radiation yield and spectral line width of CR in order to apply channeling radiation for preparing a monochromatic X-ray source. Diamond crystals can be used in relatively high electron...

High-intracavity-power thin-disk laser for the alignment of molecules.

We propose a novel approach for strong alignment of gas-phase molecules for experiments at arbitrary repetition rates. A high-intracavity-power continuous-wave laser will provide the necessary ac electric field of 10(10)-10(11) W/cm(2). We demonstrate thin-disk lasers based on Yb:YAG and Yb:Lu(2)O(3) in a linear high-finesse resonator providing intracavity power levels in excess of 100 kW at pu...

Prospect of Retrieving Vibrational Wave Function by Single-Object Scattering Sampling.

The exact shape of wave functions has never been directly measured because an ensemble measurement is often overwhelmed by the contributions of highly populated configurations. In this work, we explore the possibility of directly obtaining vibrational wave functions by single-object scattering sampling (SOSS) using intense, ultrashort X-ray pulses provided by X-ray free electron lasers. Previou...

A new binuclear complex of [{NiCl(6-mbipy)}2(μ-Cl)2] (1) was prepared from the reaction of NiCl2.6H2O and 6-methyl-2,2'-bipyridine (6-mbipy)  in a mixture of methanol and acetonitrile. Suitable crystals of 1 for X-ray diffraction measurement were obtained by slow evaporation of the resulted green solution at room ...
